As a Youth Editorial Board Member I have been asked to pick a favorite radio piece for the month, which is totally unfair and not unlike asking a parent to choose a favorite child. I've listened to a lot of pieces in the last month and found it encouraging that there are so… Continue

The fact that Colin Alford's stage name Nam1Sekatti is "it takes 1 man" spelled backwards might lead you to suspect that this Chicago area emcee knows how to get things done. You would be right.
Besides his day job as the supervisor of a surgical ward at an animal hospital outside Chicago, Nam plays basketball, writes, draws, records, and creates political hip-hop. This summer Nam will host the upcoming GPRX…

Hey my invisible partners! Let me say that it sure feels good to be back in my own 4 walls. Carnegie Hall was stunning and singing there in it's pearly gold wisdom was enough to make me teary eyed and light-headed (in a good way of course!). I can't say I want to move to New york now that I've been, I'm too much of a country lovin gal for that but, I will admit that the lights on Broadway could make any southern bell swoon and sway. I love musicals and I'd definatly live in any theater if they'd… Continue

Louis shares with us, his listeners, a personal story of transformation. Production is great and the writing is outstanding. It is worth listening for anyone that has ever felt a need for change and personal growth, regardless of how big or small. This should be aired on NPR.

4 days. There are only 4 days until I'm up in NYC! Yay me!!! Why am I going? Well sadly it's not radio related :( I just happen to be going up there with my chrous group to sing in the National Youth Choir @ Carnegie Hall. Look at me sounding all worldly and stuff, yeah right! Anyway I can't wait we leave on thursday at 8. It'll take about ten hours (10 hours of insanity) to get up there. It should be crazy fun though ;p Now all I have to do is memorize all the music! Wish me luck ;)… Continue

Colin Redwood, a fellow Teen Radio Project participant, created a segment on whether violent video games actually promote violence among those who play them.
Karmen Gallegos of Santa Fe Youth Radio tells a story she wrote about a boy who works by day, and learns by night, all to support his family, who lives in poverty. I feel that it is a powerful representation of what suffering commonly goes on in countries like Mexico or India. Listen if you have the time!

Man I can't believe the new year is just minutes away... 120 minutes to be exact... its crazy to think of everything that has happened this year and to relize that this chapter is over and another is yet to begin.. What shall the title be this time? "Chapter 18: Becoming Legal!" I mean, what am I to expect? The sense of freedom? Freedom to what? buy lottery tickets? Smoke a ciggarette? Or maybe... just maybe some one will listen to what I have to say. Maybe now my thoughts will matter. My opi…

Sam Greenspan gives the low-down on non-narrated radio stories. Indispensable advice on a range of topics: how to get interviewees to open up to you, how to decide whether or not narration is needed, structuring non-narrated stories, and sonic self-annihilation. Have a question of your own for Sam?
Natalie Marquez and Jennifer Martinez have
prepared an interesting take on the new law passed in Illinois that
requires students to spend a "moment of silence" for reflection (some
say that legislators had been pushing this moment of silence as a time
for prayer).
Heather Tyner's clear, concise narrative provides an interesting look at AP slackers, students who have little to nothing to do after their big tests in May are over. This is a tightly-packed radio segment and disperses quite a bit of information within that time. However, one of the major down… Continue

In 2005 highly influential pop-punk band Blink-182 broke up after 13
years and 14 hit singles. After the divide, bassist/vocalist Mark
Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker formed a new band +44. Keeping
pop-punk sensibilities but adding snythiszer and a more modern rock,
mature sound, +44 is what many imagine Blink-182 2.0 would be.
