The best advice I can give radioproducers on working in multimedia, is to start out bycollaborating with a photographer, and take the time to learnabout each other’s craft. When producing an audio slideshow, keepin mind these tips:

1) Start with lots of photographs. The more photos youhave to choose from, the better story you can tell in the end.

2) Let the photos tell the story, too. Never use theaudio to literally describe what you can see in a photograph. Let the photos show details and use your audio for a more emotionaldescription.

3) Think about arranging your photos in scenes. Usescenes, comprised of several photos, to take viewers to differentplaces.

4) Keep it short. You’ll have a much greater chance ofsuccess if you keep your audio slideshows short, generally underthree minutes.

Do you know about Hindenburg? No, not the historicdisaster, the new audio editing software that, according to Transom.org, is”built by radio people for making radio stories,” and (get ready)comes in a free version. There’s even a Hindenburg mobile app thatintegrates with the desktop software (which, of course, Transom also reviews).
The new AudioEducators Group site is a place to “share insights, tips,challenges, successes (yours and your students’) technical info -and of course, audio.” It’s a growing treasure trove for audioteachers.
