Generation PRX

This is my piece about gay comics called "Comics all Around". I'm wondering if I should get rid of some parts because some of it is confusing and it is a really long piece. I'm thinking about cutting the interview with my friend or the gay Japanese comics part. Please tell me if there is anything wrong with the sound, speed, or the overall story telling of this piece.

Edit: Sorry, the main theme should be about my love for comics and my favorite genre, gay comics. So you could say gay comics is a big theme in here.

First off, if the piece is about gay Japanese comics, the gay Japanese comics part should not be cut because its the subject. The interview with the friend should stay, because it touches on the subject. But, with the piece being about Japanese gay comics, you should get to the point sooner because the whole first half is you talking about how you grew up on comics, and how you interviewed your comic idols at conventions. Its nice, and I enjoyed it, but only a few of the interviews touched on your subject. Those you should keep.

Although your story of how you came into comics is, again like I said, nice, I dont think you should have so much of it. You should cut down the parts where you aren't talking about gay Japanese comics until you see fit.

Also, there are a few technical issues. During on of your interviews, I forget with who, when he's talking about how certain people should be portrayed, there is a point where his voice sounds wierd, like it was quickened. Also there are a few times where you faded the sound in too quickly or had the region come in too quickly.

Above all these, the piece is very interesting and its on a subject rarely touched that you are interested. All thats need is a fix here and there to make it better.
Such great comments. Hey Thao, do you want your piece to be about gay Japanese comics? I thought it was more general... I think the part Chris is talking about where he says it sounds "quickened" is the first Terry Moore clip.
Yay Thao! Thank you so much for posting!! I love this piece and am excited to hear what people have to say.
Hi, how's it going? Well I recently heard your piece and thought it was very...intriguing. Now, truth be told, I had never known these types of comics existed! I know more abut the Japanese anime and X-Men and that sort of thing. But I swear to you, I had NEVER seen, heard, or much more, read these comics. But as for the piece itself, it was very well put together. The interview with the friend should be kept because you do talk about the subject which is, you know, gay comics. A lot of the cross fade-ins and fade-outs are written in too quickly so I would suggest you fix them with longer, cleaner fades, which I know can be dragging, but once you go back and listen, you'll see the difference. Some parts are spoken too fast and that can be a problem at times, but easily fixable. But overall it's a great piece...ineteresting subject...and nice descriptions.
This piece sounds like it’s on an interesting topic, i did not know about these types of comics before listening to your piece. I like how you went about it but i think the "oh my gosh" part is a little over exaggerated. I think that it’s a bit lengthy and some of the interview should be cut out. Overall the piece addresses a good topic and how you explained the topic is great, you have a great deal of knowledge about this.
This post is from Natalie, a member of Curie Youth Radio:

"I think the piece would be much better if the producer made things easier to hear. A lot of things were really hard to understand. The topic was catchy. It made me stop and ask myself if I wanted to hear more about it.Cut the whole part about how you lost your very first comic. And watch out for cliches. But overall it was a very interesting piece that I believe could possibly make it. If you continue to work on it."
So why should the beginning part be cut out? Is it because it doesn't add to the overall piece? I added it because it's kind of like a story, the beginnings of a comic dork and then growing into a complete comic book geek.

I'll fix the speed definitely to make them sound more natural. I wanted the oh my gosh part to show that I really admired the people that I was interviewing and again, to show what a dork I am. Also, what does Natilie mean by cliches? Is there a radio cliche that I am not aware of in there?
Hello your piece has an interesting topic and it is somewhat interesting but i cant really understand a lot of the things that you said or sounds in the piece. When you say omigod ....and keep repeating is okay but after a while we get the point with the omigod....you might want to emphasize something else that is more important and has more meaning. You also need to check your fades and make it a bit shorter.... because i think we tend to repeat ourselves just like I am doing now...hehe but yea overall i liked it and found it intrguing because i like the topic and what you talk about gay magazines and how people portray them.
So do you think I should completely remove the omigods? Keep keep the first big omigod? Would the piece sound better overall without the omigods? After your suggestion, I'm thinking of cutting a part with a lot of omigods, but still keeping one of them.

Also, what was hard to understand? Is is because the volumes? The explantaions?
For the record, I really liked the "Oh my gosh"-es.
overall this is a pretty well done piece... I do think that the editing is a bit to clean... a lot of the interviews seem to be a little choppy, like the audio clips were placed a bit to close together. Other than that, I got nothing.... nice piece, interesting subject, nice work.
the piece was OK it wasn't the best piece i've heard. the leveling was kind of off but other then that it was good
